Episode Description:

Mimi White is my guest on this week’s episode to share her story behind the pink ribbon. She was diagnosed at the age of 34 with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. She talked about her course of treatments and how through her journey, she was inspired to create the Linkage Beauty Movement in hopes of helping other women to feel beautiful and worthy no matter what.

Show Notes:

Mimi was diagnosed in November 2015 with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma after experiencing pain in her right breast that began impacting her daily activities. Her breast had become deformed and she had an inverted nipple. Mimi shared the shock of receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer. Mimi did not receive treatment until February because she was not provided with the information on the next steps. Her treatment covered a whole year to include chemotherapy, double mastectomy without reconstruction, and radiation. In 2018, she had her fallopian tubes and ovaries removed.

Mimi shared her concern that sometimes patients are not provided with all of the information regarding treatments and options. She was not presented with all of her reconstruction options and no one had a conversation with her about fertility and egg preservation options.

Through her journey, Mimi was inspired to create Linkage Beauty Movement in August 2019. She recalls laying in bed and feeling very down on herself. She was engaging in a lot of negative self talk about her outward appearance. She just wanted to feel beautiful. Mimi realized that other women likely have shared that same experience. She wanted to start a movement that focuses on helping women feel beautiful no matter where they are in their breast cancer journey. At this time, she has showcased over 180 women.
